As a team, they were 0-4 on third down in the first half and that lack of trust in the passing attack was apparent in the final seconds before halftime. In the first half, there were a number of third-and-long situations where the Patriots elected to run the football instead of dropping Newton back to pass. ![]() With Newton struggling coming into Week 8 and New England down a number of pass-catchers, Josh McDaniels and Bill Belichick were extremely conservative with their offensive approach to start. That's been a theme for Bill Belichick's club all season as the offense has yet to score a single point in the first quarter. For starters, the Patriots once again came into this game extremely cold. While it's easy to look at the Newton fumble as the reason why New England lost this football game, that would be a little shortsighted as there were a number of reasons why they are now losers of four straight that came much earlier than that turnover. New England's defense had no answer for his physical running and Buffalo was able to take full advantage. Zack Moss was particularly impactful, rushing for two touchdowns and 81 yards on 5.8 yards per carry in the win. While Allen was serviceable through the air, the offensive MVPs have to go to the ground game. They dropped 17 points in the final two quarters and were able to make the biggest defensive play of the day by stripping Cam Newton before he could either tie the game or win it. It only took the Bills five plays to travel 75 yards and go up by eight. Where they really started to flip the switch, however, was coming out for the third quarter. Luckily for them, the Patriots offense couldn't do much with that opportunity and Buffalo was able to hang onto a one-point lead heading into the locker room. In reality, this was a game that came down to which team was going to make the big mistake and the Bills were fortunate enough to come out on the positive side of things.Īfter impressing with a 10-play, 78-yard touchdown drive to begin the day for themselves offensively, Josh Allen's unit went silent for the rest of the first half, punting twice and then throwing an interception. You certainly have to give credit to Buffalo for getting the win here, but they did let an inferior Patriots team hang around far longer than they should have. Below, you can see our main takeaways for how Buffalo was able to fend off New England and see how all the action went down in real-time in a live blog from Sunday's AFC East head-to-head showdown. The balance of power in a division that has long been ruled by Bill Belichick's Patriots seems to be shifting in the direction of the Bills for at least the 2020 season. The ground attack for Buffalo was extremely effective, totaling 190 yards and three touchdowns as a team in the win. ![]() Josh Allen showed tremendous poise in the pocket at times, completing 11 of his 18 throws for 154 yards in the win and added 23 more yards on the ground, including a touchdown. Even with the score so tight, Buffalo was clearly the superior team from wire-to-wire. Newton finished with 174 yards passing and rushed for 54 yards and a touchdown. As the Patriots quarterback called his own number and tried to inch New England even further toward the end zone, the ball slipped through his grasp, as did the game. Newton's fumble came deep inside Buffalo territory with just 31 seconds to play in the game as the Patriots were knocking on the door of either forcing overtime or winning outright. Buffalo now sits atop the division at 6-2, while the struggling Patriots are 2-5 and losers of four straight. ![]() A late fumble by Cam Newton that was recovered by the Bills all but clinched them the 24-21 win over the Patriots in Orchard Park, New York, on Sunday. © 2023 New Orleans Saints. The Buffalo Bills are now even further in the driver's seat to doing something they haven't done since 1995: Win the AFC East.

![]() It is often false, as the phantom of revelation fades away. The latter, more irritating state is the feeling that an answer will come soon, rather than that it will come eventually. Psychologists make a fine distinction between this feeling of knowing and a sense of something being “on the tip of the tongue”. If you are pretty sure you know the answer, you sensibly spend more time trying to get it if you are certain that you don’t, you move on and try to get intersecting words instead. In crosswords, says Nickerson, this “feeling of knowing” can be useful. Given a mixture of solvable and unsolvable word association tests, subjects tend to guess correctly which ones they will and won’t be able to answer. When solving these puzzles, you might initially have a strong feeling about whether you know the answer or not – and these intimations are likely to be right. In which case, it may help to say the clue or your guesses out loud.Ģ down: Nearly, nearly all, at the tips of many of solvers’ tongues (6) So our mental dictionary is not just alphabetical, but also phonological. Research supports this idea, showing that a three-letter syllable forms a more effective clue than three other consecutive letters. Nickerson thinks that is because the only common word ending in -eny has a different pattern of stress from the natural way of reading the three-letter fragment. You probably had little trouble with the first four, but may have struggled with the last one. He illustrates this with a simple puzzle: quickly think of four-letter words ending in -any, -iny, -ony, -uny and -eny. As written language is only a recent reflection of the long-evolved spoken word, Nickerson suspects that sounds are important. Pre-conscious processing is hidden from us, so it is not clear how the mind sifts through our mental lexicon to answer a clue. Or just move on to the next clue.ġ down: Sounds like… sounds like Umberto’s (6) So if 1 across has you flummoxed, you could leave it and take a nice bath, or better still read a novel. For verbal problems, a break from the clue seems to be more fruitful if you occupy yourself with another task, such as drawing a picture or reading ( Psychological Bulletin, vol 135, p 94). Studies back up our everyday experience that a period of incubation can lead you to the eventual “aha” moment. Should your powers of deduction fail you, it may help to let your mind chew over the clue while your conscious attention is elsewhere. The words tended to be associated in meaning with the eventual answer, hinting that the pre-conscious mind solves a problem in steps. While his volunteers attempted to work out the target, they were asked to give any other word that occurred to them in the meantime. ![]() Nickerson points to work in the 1990s by Peter Farvolden at the University of Toronto in Canada, who gave his subjects four-letter fragments of seven-letter target words (as may happen in some crossword layouts, especially in the US, where many words overlap). Indeed, sometimes your pre-conscious mind may be so quick that it produces the goods instantly.Īt other times, you might need to take a more methodical approach and consider possible solutions one by one, perhaps listing synonyms of a word in the clue.Įven if your list doesn’t seem to make much sense, it might reflect the way your pre-conscious mind is homing in on the solution. Intuition plays a big role in solving a crossword, Nickerson observes. Most of our mental machinations take place pre-consciously, with the results dropping into our conscious minds only after they have been decided elsewhere in the brain. In a paper published earlier this year, he brought profession and hobby together by analysing the mental processes of crossword solving ( Psychonomic Bulletin and Review, vol 18, p 217).ġ across: “You stinker!” – audible cry that allegedly marked displacement activity (6) “What’s fascinating about a crossword is that it involves many aspects of cognition that we normally study piecemeal, such as memory search and problem solving, all rolled into one ball,” says Raymond Nickerson, a psychologist at Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts. Crosswords can reflect the nature of intuition, hint at the way we retrieve words from our memory, and reveal a surprising connection between puzzle solving and our ability to recognise a human face. ![]() The processes leading to that flash of insight can illuminate many of the human mind’s curious characteristics. The elusive answer suddenly occurs to you, crystal clear. Then, when you’ve given up and moved on to another clue, comes blessed relief. You know that you know the answers to 3 down and 5 across, but the words just won’t come out. TACKLING a crossword can crowd the tip of your tongue. The chapters can be read in almost any order, including beginning with the final chapter that contains some of the more traditional topics of advanced calculus courses. There are copious exercises to help guide the reader in testing understanding. The author emphasizes the use of differential forms in linear algebra, implicit differentiation in higher dimensions using the calculus of differential forms, and the method of Lagrange multipliers in a general but easy-to-use formulation. This affordable softcover reprint of the 1994 edition presents the diverse set of topics from which advanced calculus courses are created in beautiful unifying generalization. For all these potential readers, the author has made the approach work in the best tradition of creative mathematics. ![]() The result is genuine mathematics, both in spirit and content, and an exciting choice for an honors or graduate course or indeed for any mathematician in need of a refreshingly informal and flexible reintroduction to the subject. In a book written for mathematicians, teachers of mathematics, and highly motivated students, Harold Edwards has taken a bold and unusual approach to the presentation of advanced calculus. ![]() This load is near the top of Hornady’s recommended loads. I used a 230 grain Hornady XTP (jacketed hollow point) bullet, 6.8 grains of CFE Pistol and a CCI large pistol primer, in mixed brass. I used Hornady XTP hollow point jacketed bullets in both loads. The 45 ACP is known for working well with CFE Pistol powder while the 44 magnum is perhaps a more unusual application. I chose two big-bore handgun cartridges for CFE Pistol loading and shooting- the 45 ACP and 44 magnum. ![]() This is very small for an extruded powder. CFE Pistol and Alliant-2400 both measured 0.016” inches in diameter, smaller than HP-38 and over half the length of Hodgdon Trail Boss. Trail boss, for example, is designed to be as bulky as possible so as to take up more space and prevent overcharging. It was interesting to compare the sizes and styles of the various powders. We compared several powders under the Wi-Fi 400x microscope. I’ve not only hunted with this pistol, but carried it as a bear gun. Though Hodgdon’s chart above shows 12.0 grains for 44 magnum, I wanted to drop it down to 11 grains so it would be a little easier to shoot in my Smith & Wesson 629. *Above data is from Hodgdon’s Reloading Data Center. ![]() I was amazed at how many calibers CFE Pistol has a track record of great performance with. I loaded for 44 mag and 45 ACP and found two solid loads. Gavin has loaded for many of the cartridges below. It falls right next to Winchester Auto Comp, burning faster than Alliant 2400, yet slower than Alliant Unique or Hodgdon Universal. Burn Rate AnalysisĬFE Pistol is a “medium-fast” pistol powder on the burn rate chart. This spherical pistol propellant was designed for competitive shooters and handloaders seeking the perfect powder for target or self-defense loads.ĬFE Pistol contains our Copper Fouling Eraser ingredient, originally used in military propellant, which greatly deters copper fouling and contributes to longer periods of top accuracy with less barrel cleaning time.ĬFE Pistol provides optimum performance in cartridges like the 9mm Luger, 38 Super, 40 S&W, the 45 ACP and many more.Īlthough it is advertised for the 9mm Luger, 38 Super, 40 S&W, and the 45 ACP, I was pleased to find extensive load data for other cartridges such as 38 Special, 357 Magnum, 44 magnum, 45 Colt and more. From the Hodgdon CFE Pistol product page: This allows shooters to clean their barrels less often. Your customer demand might outgrow your living space and your capacity to pack and ship orders on time. You can find shipping costs for shirts for each region on our shipping page. Your shipping cost per product is 40 cents. For example, you pay $20 for shipping 50 t-shirts. Here’s the formula: divide the supply shipping costs by the number of items in your order and add that to the product cost. In fact, customers are 4–5 times more likely to buy something if you offer them free shipping, but that means higher product costs since you have to cover the shipping yourself. Free shipping for all orders will boost your sales. When it comes to shipping, you need to consider what kind of shipping rates to offer to your customers. And take note of the product label costs if you want to add your brand logo. Large embroidery placement as well as embroidery and print design combinations cost extra. You’ll also have to consider your chosen embroidery type. For example, if you want to embroider a Printful shirt, there will be a digitization fee for every new design you order or push to your store. This will also help you evaluate the effectiveness of the time you spend working on your business.īesides time investment, you should also research the design cost of your chosen technique and design placement. My best suggestion is to come up with a realistic hourly rate for your work. However, your time is valuable, so make sure you profit from it. If you create designs yourself, it’s tempting to ignore design costs to keep the retail price low. This is especially crucial if you plan on releasing the design in a limited volume or as a limited-time offer since that restricts how much you can profit from that design. If you’re outsourcing design services, divide the price you pay to the designer by the number of items you expect to sell. Your shirt designs are what will ultimately convince your customers to buy, so they’ll cost you time and resources. 15 Dropshipping Tips You Need to Check Before Starting Your Business.Profitable Dropshipping Niches: How to Find Them + Top Picks. ![]() Branded Dropshipping: a Guide for Ecommerce Businesses. If you want to calculate the total cost of the product and earn a profit from each sale, you need to consider all expenses.
